Freshman Leaders Participate in Global Youth Service Day
April 20, 2015
Hillcrest High School Freshman Leadership students Bessie Barlow, Darlene Jones, Crystal Currin, Cynthia Navarrete, and Kayla Weddington participated in a Global Youth Service Day Project on Saturday, April 18th, 2015.
The group decided that the service day would be a great idea to help in their own school. The Freshman Leadership students, led by Mrs. Julie Kirk, assisted with spring cleaning and decorating in Hillcrest’s Instructional Media Center (IMC). The students created handmade posters, flower arrangements, and hung up posters and paper flowers to decorate for the spring season. “This is a great group of young people who want to make a difference, and I’m honored to be a part of that,” stated Julie Kirk.
Global Youth Service Day is the largest community service event in the world, and the only event dedicated to celebrating the contributions that young people make to their communities year-round. Several Chicago Southland area schools, churches, and organizations joined forces in a variety of student-led service projects all over the Chicagoland area on Saturday, April 18, 2015 as part of an international campaign that celebrates the power of young people.
Global Youth Service Day is led locally by The Bridge Teen Center in Orland Park.
