Riverdale is a teen drama television series based on the characters from the Archie Comics. The shows centers around a group of friends as they deal with events in their mysterious town, Riverdale.  Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is one of the main characters along with his best friend who also has a crush on him, Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart). Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) also a love interest of Archie’s, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), ex-best friend of Archie and Betty’s love-interest, Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), lead singer of the Pussycats, and Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) are among the other main characters.

The first season centers around the death of Jason Blossom, Cheryl Blossom’s twin brother. Jason mysteriously disappeared and died, and they try to find who may have killed him. Jason Blossom also dated Betty Cooper’s older sister, Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye), and she is now in a mental asylum. There are many secrets and tragedies that the group of friends try to uncover to understand what happed to Jason Blossom. The Blossoms are known for being and evil, rich family that goes back centuries. At the end of Season 1, it was revealed that Clifford Blossom, father of Cheryl and Jason, killed his own son to keep the family business a secret.

Season 1 premiered on January 26,2017. The show was adapted from the Archie Comics with Chief Creative Officer Roberto Agurirre-Sacasa. Riverdale is executively produced by Greg Berltoni, Jon Goldwater, and Sarah Schechter. It was produced by J.B. Moranville. It was distributed by Warner Bros. Television Distribution.  The show comes on The CW channel and Netflix. Season 1 received mixed reviews with a 7.8/10 from IMDb and an 8.2/10 from TV.com. Rotten Tomatoes gave the show a rating of 89%. Another critic website stated, “Riverdale offers an amusingly self-aware reimagining of its classic source material that proves eerie, odd, daring, and above all addictive.”  Riverdale also won 8 Teen Choice Awards, and 1 Saturn award. The season 1 premiere had about 1.38 million viewers. The season finale had about 0.96 million viewers.

Riverdale has become one of my favorite shows. I love any drama show. All the people that play these characters are perfect for their role. They all make it look so easy and entertaining. I was excited to see that Cole Sprouse was in this show, because I use to watch him on Disney Channel when I was younger. He plays Jughead Jones phenomenally, and brings the character to life. Jughead was portrayed as a mysterious, weirdo at the beginning of season 1. However, throughout the season, he became more comfortable and open with all the other students, especially Betty. The actress that plays Betty Cooper, brings her to life. She is very innocent and cute, but also had a dark side to her that peeks out now and then. She makes the shows more enjoyable. We also get to learn about her relationship with her sister Polly Cooper, and how she tied in with Jason. I was surprised to see how Polly was doing when Betty went to go sneak to see her at the place their parents sent them away to. The Blossom family are the driving villains of this show. They are so mysterious, and there are so many unanswered questions about their past. It was very shocking to see how the patriarch of this family would do anything to keep his family’s secrets.

The story’s overall plot is well put together. I love how you never know what’s going to happen next, and how they hold you on to certain details. They make sure that you will watch the next episode to find your answer. I love how it’s based off an original comic, but has its own twist to it. It’s a true teen drama that was well thought out.  This show will be one of my favorite shows for a while. I recommend that everyone should watch it if you’re into drama.

Season 2 premiered on October 11,2017. There have been many new castings in the show such as Mark Consuelos as Hiram Lodge, Charles Melton as Reggie, and Brit Morgan as Penny Peabody. This season has been said to pick up exactly where season 1 left off, the discovery of Jason Blossom’s killer. Some spoilers were that Archie was going to turn dark and do some things he’s never done before. Archie is known for being the sweet, hero-like character in this series, but he is going to take on revenge for whatever has happened. A civil war has been said to take place between the serpents and another group. This season will be exciting and entertaining, so I recommend that everyone catch up on season 1 and begin to watch season 2!
