Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is a great film.

Sonic 2 was a highly anticipated movie after its predecessor film shattered the box office and impressed critics, and let’s just say the film definitely lived up to the hype. The film impressed me on all levels from voice acting, to graphics, to fight choreography, and its use of characters. It was an absolute thrill ride and also served as a developing arc in sonics character. The story is fresh take on introducing the chaos emeralds and Tails, and Knuckles into the cinematic universe.

In the film, we start of with Sonic in the middle of a high speed chase with robbers who just stole an armored bank truck, The chase is simply fantastic; it showcases Sonic’s improvement on the use of his powers while also showing Sonic’s immature side, which is to be expected because in these films Sonic is in fact still a kid.

Flash forward into the film Sonic rushes home to his bedroom because he is not supposed to be out fighting crime as instructed by his parents the Wachowskis. However, his little plan fails and he ends up getting caught red handed by his adoptive father, who then scolds him before preparing for his trip to his sister in laws wedding in Hawaii.

Enough with the spoilers; let’s get into the phenomenal voice acting from Idris Elba as Knuckles the echidna. He brings his A game in portraying Knuckles, the last of his race tasked with protecting the Chaos Emerald. He has the ability to go from menacing and threatening to funny and naive in a matter of moments, and I loved that in this film. He’ll be sure to steal your heart as soon as you see him on screen.

Next, we have Jim Carrey returning to his role as Dr. Robotnik was easily one of the highlights of the first film and carried that same charisma to the second. He returns with even more evil plans to conquer the world and even convinces knuckles to help him carry out those plans.

Spoiler alert: he even dawns his iconic robot mech, just like in the shows and videogames.

Sadly, we might not get to see Carrey return for the third film in the franchise as he has stated that he might be retiring from acting very soon.

We’ll definitely be sad to see him go.
