So many new options at lunch time this year but, what does it all mean and how does it affect us?

I went to Assistant Principal Mr. Terrence Simmons to get the answers so many of us need to know!

More students are motivated to improve their grades to get a full period lunch.

— Terrence Simmons

Here is what he shared: ALC is the academic learning center, and is a full period academic support program for students struggling in one or more classes. “This being our first cycle of this program the results of our efforts and collaboration are very encouraging. Our students are receiving a plethora of supports from our schools’ Response To Intervention programs” said Simmons.

A study hall is issued if a student maintains a “C” or higher in all his classes at mid-terms or at the end of the quarter then the student will receive a full period lunch as a reward for being responsible and organized with his grades.

The details about ALC were interesting because the students have a working lunch inside the center and use an online menu to order their lunch. Once they complete the order it is brought to them. The ALC encourages students to collaborating with their academic coaches to improve their grades. I asked Simmons one last question about the grades improving overall, His response, “Yes, at midterms we had eighty more students passing more classes than last semester. In addition, more students are motivated to improve their grades to get a full period lunch.”
