Last year, the Hillcrest Hawks wrestling team came out dominating the competitions winning every Dual and Tri Meet they had, but ultimately came up short to Oak Forest when wrestling for the District Championship.

The team had five State Qualifiers: Jovan Williams, Latrelle Hall, Elijah Worford, K’Vion Bills and Cha’anna Kassim. Each was a true monster in their weight class; Jovan Williams placed Top Ten in the state and Cha’anna Kassim placed 7th in Girls State.

K’Vion was a senior last year, and it was his first time wrestling even though he made it to state; though he didn’t end up placing, we wish him congratulations!

This year the Hawks are on another level – new coach,  new moves, more discipline and ready to knock down anyone who comes in their way. We even have some wrestlers from earlier years coming back to wrestle.

Our first Goal is to beat Oak Forest, Tinley Park, and Bremen for the District Championship this year. Hillcrest hasn’t won since 2008. For the seniors, this is the last chance to prove themselves.

Expectations are high this year. State qualifier Latrelle Hall expects “to see [his] teammates working hard and dedicated to this sport. To push themselves harder and get up even when they don’t feel like it.”

Kassim’s goals this year “are mainly to do better than my last. Push myself harder and place higher than 7th in State.”

Senior captain Sir Smith promised that he “will drive [his] teammates to be the best they can and push them harder than ever before and [he] expects them to do the same for [him]. This year we came to dominate and crush our competition no matter what and that’s what we are gonna do.”

The Hillcrest Hawks wrestling team is working harder than ever this year to be on top and will stop at nothing to see that happen.

Watch out world; the Hawks are coming!
