On Friday night, the Hawks traveled 30 mins to face the Eagles in a regional championship game. The Hawks, who were down by 8 at the end the first and down 1 at the half, had an amazing 3rd quarter to pull ahead and finish out the game with a 75 to 61 Hillcrest victory.

These Hungry Hawks were led by 4 seniors: Darrion Baker with 21 points, Bryce Diggy Tillery with 14, Quentin Heady with 15, and Tolu Samuels chipped in with 10 points.

The Hawks, coached well by Don Houston, were picked to win this matchup but the Eagles were not going to go home without a fight on their home court.

For me, during the game when we were down I just thought and said I don’t want to go home this early.

The Hawks came out slow and were down 8 points to the Eagles at the end of the first and couldn’t turn it on until the 3rd. Bryce Diggy Tillery had an outrageous 3rd quarter scoring 10 points to pull the Hawks to a double digit lead.

The Hawks have been having a great season with a 27-3 record although losing 2 starters to the transfer portal. Seniors Quentin Heady and Tolu Samuels from coming off the bench last year have risen to the occasion and been putting up great number for the Hawks and being key points to most of the Hawk’s wins.

Now, being regional champs, the Hawks go into a tough week of sectionals which will be hosted at Hillcrest. The Hawks will face a tough TF North team coached by Tim Bankston. He has brought his undersized team through a great season and were one of the teams to upset the Hawks this year earlier in the season.

Now, the Hawks are out for some get-back and will be refacing the Meteors at home to continue to go on their state run on Tuesday night. It will be a great game and a big rivalry, so if I were you I wouldn’t miss this game for anything.

Make sure to come out and support those Hillcrest Hawks as they fight and try to protect their nest.
