Why is school so difficult at times? What’s stopping us students from passing every single class with the favorable grade that everyone values so much? What exactly are we supposed to do in order to persevere and accomplish the academic goals we “must” achieve in order to escape the shackles of failure and dictate our future lives?
School is like a full-time job for students, where we are constantly surrounded by people telling us that we need to meet a certain criteria in order to “be successful”, or nervous about the next quiz coming up that we’ve been pushing off for the past two weeks. The thing is… nobody ever tells us how.
How do we succeed in school? How do we get good grades and strengthen our student profile? What exactly do we need to do in order to get an A in a class? Students are always wondering if they’ll get an A but almost never asking themselves how they’ll do it.
The same thing goes with the popular phrase “anything is possible”. Sure, anything might be possible to accomplish, but how will you do it? This is something that I’ve always asked myself, but have never seemed to discover the answer until now. Just do it. Do it, do the things that you’re scared to do; scared that you’ll fail or won’t be good enough for. But do it with a plan. This is the absolute most important factor in any successful outcome we see all around us. Every victory you’ve accomplished, every athlete you’ve seen on the news that won a world championship in the sport they play in, every single one of them had a plan.
Although I cannot physically tell you every single step of what you need to do in order to be successful academically, due to everyone’s situation being specifically structured, I will leave you with a piece of knowledge advice that you should consider implementing into your everyday life. You need to construct a plan. Create a blueprint of your future, containing every single thing you need to do, brick by brick. Sure, but just because you have a plan now doesn’t mean it won’t change. Be open minded to every single situation you encounter, realize that life will continue to live its everchanging reality and you just happen to fall within its creases, gravitating towards doubt as you fall.
In regards to school, as well as any other situation, you must have a plan in order to reach the finish line. Create that study habit and dedicate more time to learning about a certain subject you might lack strength in, spend that extra hour studying for that quiz coming up tomorrow, get to know your teachers so they become more understanding of your situation, because things can and will absolutely change, and when it does, you might not be ready for it. Going into high school, I had absolutely no idea where I could start with my academic journey, and definitely didn’t have anyone telling me what things I needed to do in order to pass my classes with an A. In almost every single class I’ve taken, many of my peers felt in a similar way about their academic journey, wishing that they would’ve done more than originally planned, or that they spent more time and effort in preparation for upcoming events. Being one of these students myself, I ended up researching more about my future during the first semester of my freshman year, unraveling the process of college preparation and discovering ways to put myself and my future first, allowing me to grow my knowledge of very crucial information. Nobody ever told me to, but I still did it with the mindset I spent a lot of time and energy developing. Nobody ever told me to set extreme expectations for my academic career, or stay up all those nights after school just to graduate as valedictorian, but I still do it because I know what lies ahead will be a thousand times more rewarding.
The future of our lives falls under the same umbrella as a game of chess, where we move the pieces of our reality in order to set up for a checkmate. You can start now and set yourself up for a better position against the odds of the world, or blunder the unprecedented power you have to put forth your potential. It is never too late to plan ahead, even as a senior in high school. Explore the amazing opportunities given to you both inside and outside of school, pushing yourself every step of the way. At the end of every day, the future lies in the palms of your hands.
How will you do it…?
