In my freshman year of high school, my mother enrolled me in a program: ETS which is a part of 3 Seeds. At first, I didn’t know how to feel about it. It was during COVID, so I was skeptical about getting out of the house. My first time attending their events was an “okay” experience for me. I remembered not talking to anyone but my twin sister.
As time passed, we began to come around more and started creating new bonds with people, we started to realize that it was actually a great program. Eventually, I got off of probation and became an Upward Bound member. Upward Bound helped me to become the person I am today. 3 Seeds mentoring group helps us view the world in ways we never imagined. They prepare for college by doing visits at different schools, especially the HBCU Spring Tour. We go on adventurous trips, and we create new bonds. I would consider 3 Seeds as my second family.
My favorite memory with 3 Seeds would have to be the 2023 HBCU Tour. It was my first time going on a spring tour and I enjoyed every minute of it. We visited Spelman, Clark, TSU, and many more. Coming from a big food fan, we had great meals. The trip was approximately 3 days but with them, it felt like hours. My favorite part of the trip would have to be the annual talent show they have at every tour. I was kinda a part of it and it was great. I also got closer with some of the old seniors who graduated from Hillcrest last year.
I would recommend every freshman or any student at Hillcrest in general to join 3 Seeds. Everyone should be able to experience the perks and benefits of joining the program. It might be a completely different and new experience, but it’s so worth it. It’s definitely a great and wonderful experience.
I’m a senior currently and as soon as I graduate, I will become an alumni of 3 Seeds. It’s a bittersweet situation, and I just know that they will be missed.
