Hillcrest is not a well-known school when it comes to baseball, but we have some young talented players that are giving the Hawks a new identity.

Your Hawks started off the season 3-11 with an upcoming game against Tinley Park, Monday 5/2. This is a big turn around from the last two years where Hillcrest didn’t win a game.

In regards to the upcoming game against Tinley Park, pitcher Deon described the mindset the team has: “We are taking it one game at a time, and we are all locked in and having fun with the game.”

The Hawks didn’t win a single game over the COVID period, so things are looking up for this young Hawk team. Coach Mike is leading the team in the right direction, and the boys are going to try and finish the season with 6 plus wins.

Outfielder Leterious Hall reflected on how he makes sure his young team is locked in during practice and games. He said, “at the beginning of the season we were childish, but we all zoned in when we actually thought we could be good.” Leterious (batting .305 with no errors) takes on being the leader of the team with great pride due to the fact he is still young himself.

Delvon, a dual threat on defense starting at 1st base and closing pitcher shared how he keeps his cool during intense games: “I usually listen to music and use breathing techniques to keep my mind on the game and help me stay focused.” Delvon displayed his coolness in the Hawks last game against Eisenhower; even though the Hawks fell short, Delvon went 3-4 at bat and had 2 RBI’s on the game.

Leterious, Deon, and Delvon are the three leaders for the Hawks and will keep striving to be better everyday.
