Hi my name is Serenity Johnson. High school was definitely an experience for me and I will never forget it. I learned countless things during the past 4 years. Transitioning from middle school to high school was awkward and weird to me. While I was expecting to be a freshman in high school, life happened and I had to do my freshman year online through Google Meets. At the end of 8th grade, COVID hit us all pretty hard.
My freshman year was not how I expected it to be but I pushed through. My sophomore year was how my freshman year was supposed to be. I finally came to school and had to navigate through the halls and it wasn’t easy. Eventually, I got the hang of everything and had an amazing school year. I met new friends and enjoyed my classes. My junior year is when I realized that I had to become more focused in school. Things started to progress and get harder. I had the SAT to worry about and my plans after high school. I felt as if a lot of pressure was on me and that’s when senioritis started to really kick in for me, I couldn’t wait to be a senior. Fast forward to my senior year of high school, I feel like everything is going so fast. I’m transitioning into adulthood and I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I can’t wait to see what college brings me. I’m excited to go to college and pursue my career in nursing.
My favorite moments and memories from the past 4 years were meeting new people and also becoming closer with my old elementary friends, Munirat and Mujidat. They are a huge impact in my life right now and I appreciate them dearly. Another one of my favorite memories would have to be becoming a part of the National Honor Society. Induction night was a success and I was very proud of how far I’ve come.
Advice for incoming freshmen?
Focus on your freshman year but have fun at the same. Your first and last year of high school is very important. Freshman year determines your GPA for the rest of your high school career which will prepare you for your senior year as you fill out applications for colleges. I highly recommend joining activities. Coming from a person who isn’t really involved as much as I should be, I regret not joining clubs.
To the Class of 2024, my fellow classmates, I wish you all nothing but success and happiness. It was a great experience being with you all for the past 4 years. Congratulations, we did it!
