Hillcrest’s BPA and DECA Host Bake Sale

Hillcrests BPA and DECA Host Bake Sale

Tia Pollard

On October 20th 2017, Business Professionals of America (BPA) and Distributive Education Clubs of America will be having a bake sale in order to fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This whole idea was thought out during an assignment in order to see which group in each class could make the best poster and banner designs and who could come up with the best and most profitable “business.”

The Creation of the Project

This assignment had originally began during the week of October 1st through October 9th, as an in-class assignment to teach students how to be able to be their own entrepreneurs. There were two different themes to chose from, one theme being a Halloween Bake Sale to raise money for Business Professionals of America (BPA) and Distributive Education Clubs of Awareness (DECA) and a Breast Cancer Bake Sale to raise money to help fund an organization or foundation on finding different types of cures or medicines. Both themes have to incorporate a theme/reason for the name of the project, what product they will sale, why the specific product will sell, what will make someone want to purchase the product, how much it will cost, how the packaging will look, and to create a unique banner and poster. In the Business Professionals of America (BPA) and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) classes, each class was divided into 6 groups. Out of those 6 groups, 3 were in charge of the Breast Cancer Bake Sale and 3 were in charge of the Halloween Bake Sale. Each group in each class was given a week and a half to complete this assignment and present the assignment to the class. As each group presented, the classes would have to vote on which presentation they liked best and would have the most profitable outcome.

Overall Winners of Project

In the end, the winner from the Business Professionals of America class were “Cake Pops 4 Bra Tops!” by Chalesia B., Tayla J., and Destiny R. “Cake Pops 4 Bra Tops!” theme/reason for the name of the project was, “It’s catchy and unique, you don’t usually hear people talking about bra tops and cake pops.” Their product had became cake pops because “they are a more enthusiastic and creative pastry unlike the usual cupcake or cookie.” Their packaging will insist of the cake pops being set in a vase as if they were flowers in a bouquet. They believe their product will sell because “They’re easy to make, they’re portable, they come in a great variety of flavors and they’re very different. Not many bake sales or pastry shops sponsor cake pops.” “Cake Pops 4 Bra Tops!” will be selling their cake pops for $2 each.

The winner for Distributive Education Clubs of America class were “Turn Up the P!nk P!nk Pops!” by Kaitlyn C., Nicolas M., Angel J., and Tashara T.“Turn Up the P!nk P!nk Pops!” theme/reason for the name of the project was “It’s fun, and encouraging. This will make people want to ‘join the fun’ and want to buy our merchandise.” What makes their product unique is the fact that, “ They are all going to have their own design, such as colorful sprinkle or solid white with a pink breast cancer bow on it.” Their packaging will include the cake pops being wrapped in a clear packaging and secured with a pink bow and a note that says “Thank You For Your Support!” “Turn Up the P!nk P!nk Pops!” will be selling their cake pops for $0.75 each.

The Bake Sale will be held again on Friday, October 20th, 2017 in front of the cafeteria. This Bake sale will be during all lunch periods and will only be held on October 20th. If the Bake Sale will proceed into the following week students and staff will be notified that following morning. So come out and support the Business Professionals of America and Distributive Education Clubs of America’s Bake Sale!
