Curly Hair Products that Work for Me!

Aryanna McKenney, Staff Writer

If you have curly or kinky hair, you know how hard it can be to find products that work for you. Personally, my hair has a very loose curl pattern when wet but is very thick and poofy when dry. Depending on the products I use, my hair changes style and thickness when dry and wet.

Here are some products that work for my 2C and 3A hair. (Reminder: these are products that work for me are my personal opinion, so these products may or may not work for you).

  1. Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner (available on Amazon, Walmart, Target, or the beauty supply store) usually ranger around 12.99 for one bottle of either the conditioner or shampoo, or you can find it on Amazon for 21.95 for both bottles. I like this set because it leaves my hair soft and clean. It is not too heavy or sticky. A lot of conditioners can leave your hair feeling dryer than before use but this one leaves my hair soft and smelling really good. I used to use a lot of gel in my hair to do slick back buns or slick ponytails, so my hair has lost a few of its curls in the front. I have been trying to use less gel in hopes that this set will help bring the curls back in the front.
  2. Carol’s daughter CoCo Crene Coil enhancing moisture butter. My hair sometimes gets really dry; this product helps a lot. It brings moisture to my hair and is not too heavy. This product proves that a little goes a long way, so this product lasts a pretty long time. This product costs around $11-13 depending on where you buy it. Also, this product smells heavenly.
  3. Peppermint hair growth oil. My favorite kind of oil for my hair is peppermint oil. It is very refreshing for my scalp and has a very minty effect. It has helped my hair grow thicker. I focus on growing my hair more in thickness than length. The bottle lasts for a pretty long time. There are all different kinds and brands of peppermint oil. It can range from $2-10 depending on the brand and size.
  4. Miss Jessies pillow soft curl lotion. Last but not least this product is thick enough that it won’t wear off your hair too quickly. It doesn’t leave a nasty continence in your hair and, just like the other products, smells very nice. It keeps my hair moist and enhances my curls. It makes my hair very soft because when my hair dries it tends to get dry and un-moisturized. This product is more on the pricy side and can range in cost from $20-22 for an 8.5 OZ. if you want to try it out they have a 1OZ product for $4-7.

I switch my products around every now and then but these are products that I feel really work for me. Whether you wear your natural hair out or not, everyone should learn to take care of it.
